The Grand Opera House today launched its new Autumn/Winter season in spectacular
style, GOH'ing Green in the process.
Theatre Director, John Botteley, explains,
"as well as containing a plethora of brilliant shows between now and March next
year, the new brochure is dedicated to encourage customers to go online to book
tickets and download copies of the season brochure. This will help us 'GOH
Green', by reducing the number of tickets printed and posted from 500,000
currently to 250,000 in 2012 and by reducing the number of printed copies of the
season brochure from 400,000 currently to 240,000 by 2011. This brochure
has also been printed by GPS Colour Graphics Ltd, Northern Ireland’s only
CarbonNeutral Printing Company and on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
Accredited Material. In fact, the brochure is the first FSC accredited
publication to be printed in N. Ireland."

He continued, "the Grand Opera House takes environmental issues very seriously and behind the
scenes we have been working very hard to reduce our Carbon Footprint. We
have achieved level 2 membership of the Green Dragon Environmental Standard and
won the Tidy Belfast, Gold Award in 2005. The award was given for
contribution to life in the city, good upkeep of the appearance of the building,
floral displays and litter control in areas surrounding the building. We
recycle glass, cardboard, paper, cans, waste oil and print cartridges so
reducing the high cost of waste going to landfill. In 2007 the Grand Opera
House purchased and installed Building Management Software which allows us to
set all heating and ventilation to run at optimum times and optimum efficiency
saving on gas, electricity and maintenance costs. We are also taking part
in a project called the Big Splash Campaign organised by the Northern Ireland
Environment Agency aimed at helping local business highlight any savings in
water use and reducing water and effluent costs."
Helen McClay from GPS Colour Graphics said,
"GPS is very committed to the environment and we are delighted to print the
Grand Opera House brochure, the first FSC accredited publication to be printed
in Northern Ireland. We are delighted that the theatre is endorsing
environmental policies through 'GOH Green' and believe they are setting a trend
by doing so."
